This week our yr 4, 5 and 6 children were lucky enough to have a visit from our Patron of Reading Abi Elphinestone to talk about her new book ‘Sky Song.’ She talked to the children about her inspiration behind the book and the research she undertook to write it, from dog sledding to visiting the Northern Lights to meeting an eagle huntress in Mongolia who inspired the character of Eska. The children created their own villain character with Abi who had a thorn made of antlers, a face of different colours and a cloak filled with the screams of their victims. Abi was really impressed by their imaginations and their enthusiasm for writing and reading.
Abi ran a special competition for the children to design their own invention just like Flint a character in the story. She was so impressed with all the entries and she presented prized to the winners. A huge well done to all of the children who entered the competition.
Abi also got to meet the children of the yr 5/6 book group who had reviewed ‘Sky Song’ in the TES magazine and she was thrilled with their lovely feedback about her story. Here is the link to the review if you want to find out more.
A huge thank you to FOWPS for supporting the visit the children had a wonderful time.
