Number Ninja!!

It’s here…the year 5 times table challenge!

Each week on a Friday children will be tested in order to have the chance to move their ninja character up the coloured karate belts.

They will have 3 minutes to complete the test, and they must get each answer right, and then beat their time score the next week before moving onto the next belt.

Children will be eased in gently beginning with number bonds to 10, as in karate everyone will start with the basics before moving up a belt!

Other exciting news…Abi Elphinstone has revealed the book cover of the sequal to ‘The Dream Snatcher’!  Here it is…

What do you think, Kingfishers?

Hopefully we won’t have long to wait!

Busy! Busy! Busy!

It is another exciting week in Kingfishers as we begun rehearsing for our CHRISTMAS production!!! Mrs Alvis has been testing us to the limit with the singing & actions. Excitingly, year 5-6 will be going to see Testborne’s OLIVER. Everyone has enjoyed our musical so far with ups and downs.

In science this week, we have been testing out household items mixed with water. We found that some materials were soluble and some were insoluble. The items we used were : Sand , Flour , Sodium Bicarbonate , Pepper , Salt , Sugar , Coffee ; oil.

A day in the Iron Age

We had an absolutely fantastic day yesterday. We’ve learnt so much about the Iron Age, looking at weapons, household items, creating Iron Age shields and taking part in warrior training!!

Here are lots of pictures of yesterday’s events…

Ruth and Zac (as class ambassadors) have been very busy today working on their first Kingfisher blog post! It’s not quite finished but I’m sure it will be with you shortly.

I’ve just been printing out some pictures of todays Literacy lesson so I thought I’d share them on here…

Today we acted out our own endings to the myth ‘Perseus and Medusa’…

Illustration challenge!

Mrs Clarke worked her magic yet again…as this week we had another Skype call with the illustrator of The Clockwork Dragon- Elys Dolan!

In light of this I’d like to set you a challenge, Kingfishers…can you draw your own Clockwork Dragon? I’d love to see your versions so bring them in and show me 🙂

Here he is…

I also also think you should check out Mrs Clarke’s blog, especially if you’re stuck for ideas on what to read! It’s got loads of really fab suggestions.

Here’s the link…

Miss Haighton 🙂

First week back

We have had a great (but very chaotic) first week back after half term!

Thank you all for your effort and enthusiasm this week with your half term homework! It has been very exciting sharing your stories on what you have all been up to. You followed a range of instructions from a map, to recipes, to building mechanical arms! There were Dojo points being handed out left right and centre!!

We have also had lots of books to share this week, as we are participating in the Hampshire Illustrated Book awards! This is exciting as after we share all of the books entered in the competition, we have the opportunity to vote for our favourite!

To help us decide, Mrs Clarke worked her magic and arranged for us to have not one, but TWO Skype calls with two of the authors (which is amazing as they gave up their own time to chat to us so we should feel very privileged).

Our first call was to Jonathan Emmett, the author of The Clockwork Dragon.

Our second call was to Minnie Grey, the author and illustrator of Hermelin.

You asked some fantastic questions Kingfishers so well done! That is three authors you have spoken to already this school year and it is only November!

Have a fab weekend!

See you Monday,

Miss Haighton 🙂
